Tag Archives: Being Vulnerable

hello September! here i am.

hello september here I AMlabor day beachThree day weekends are the best. We spent the morning at the beach, here in Chicago. Oh boy, yep it’s Labor Day (the un-official end of summer). And as summers do, this one really did fly by.

I’ve been a bit more silent on the blog the past week or two. It’s not for lack of “material.” It’s just that my mind has been racing, and so have my emotions. I haven’t been able to keep up.

To be perfectly honest, I’ve been feeling more vulnerable than usual. I want to be transparent, but I hate to share my discouragement. Again. My goal for this blog is to open myself up to life — but in the moment, I just feel so lame. It feels like complaining (and there’s nothing to complain about!).

Luckily, I think I’m nearing the end.  I feel (somewhat) confident in the idea of breakdown before breakthrough. My brother Christian said something to me recently that I loved. I was sharing my blues and he said (I’ll paraphrase), “it sounds like Mateo…how right before any of his big milestones, he has a week or so of being super grumpy and frustrated. So something exciting must be coming.”

Oh September! Here we go! Looking forward to finding the breakthroughs! ;) Exciting stuff, ha.

Something rather wonderful that I watched recently was a TED talk by Brené Brown on the Power of Vulnerability. This stuck with me: The original meaning of the word, Courage – (stemming from the Latin word Cor, meaning “heart”) was to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart. To have courage is to be willing to be imperfect and YES, to be willing to let go of who you think you should  be, in order to be who you really are.

There are different sides to being vulnerable. We can shun it because of shame, but there is also the possibility to embracing vulnerability. Vulnerability is also what makes us beautiful.

I hope in September to embrace my vulnerability and to have courage. And you? What are your hopes for September?? I hope we can share our inspiration and our struggles with each other.

HAPPY LABOR DAY (to you celebrating here)

& HAPPY [VULNERABLY BEAUTIFUL & COURAGEOUS] SEPTEMBER to EVERYONE! (a day late, yeah, yeah).

Go on and watch Brené Brown’s TED talk on the Power of Vulnerability yourself (here).
